New CMP Fall course: Dark Sky Studies
This course will look at our relationships with night skies and artificial light. We will explore and creatively respond to the challenges and opportunities for mitigating the problems associated with light pollution while exploring the stories, science, and mysteries of the night skies.
The course will include fieldwork, including learning how to use new drone technology to measure lighting impacts. This will be the first of three core courses for a Minor in Dark Sky Studies being developed at the U with support from the W. M. Keck Foundation.
Students will learn about the emerging research on exposure to artificial light and its impact on human health, animal health, public safety and our loss of access to the night skies.
