The Opportunity:
The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) Local Programs Office is currently seeking to fill the role of City Safety & Traffic Programs Manager, which is located in Olympia, WA. This position manages the City Safety Program and provides direct traffic engineering expertise to local jurisdictions throughout the state. The position identifies and proposes solutions to traffic and safety issues such as safety improvement location and countermeasure selection, traffic operations, traffic control and warning devices, and others. In addition, the position works with the Washington Transportation Professionals peer exchange, providing training and facilitating other peer exchange opportunities.

This position will perform the following work:

  • Manage the City Safety program including developing the methodology to identify locations and agencies using crash data, developing calls-for-projects communications, working with cities to answer questions and develop projects, evaluating projects in-house and in the field, and identifying cities and projects to receive funding.
  • Manage and provide direct traffic engineering expertise to all local jurisdictions by assisting local agencies in identifying traffic safety and operations issues and propose traffic engineering solutions.
  • Work with the Washington Transportation Professionals peer exchange including sending out communications, maintaining e-mail distribution lists, and supporting peer exchange activities.
  • Provide training, write articles, and develop and maintain web pages related to City Safety and Traffic programs.
