Accessibility Compliance Coordinator

Ada County Highway District is now accepting applications for an Accessibility Compliance Coordinator in the Traffic Engineering Department.  This is a full-time, exempt position with a starting wage range of $58,739 to $70,470 annually, DOQ.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • The Accessibility Compliance Coordinator is ACHD’s technical expert for all Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance in terms of engineering, planning, and project and policy development for the public rights of way supervised under ACHD’s statutory authority and ACHD’s facilities.
  • The Coordinator is responsible for the coordination, implementation and participation in civil engineering work associated in the design, review, management and construction of roadway projects for the District to ensure compliance with the ADA throughout the construction process. Also responsible for the coordination and implementation of all ACHD ADA and other disability access programs, activities and services. This includes work in the design, management, and preparation of plans and contract documents for permitting and construction of roadway projects.
  • Under the direction of the Traffic Engineering Supervisor, the Coordinator is also responsible to ensure that all construction activities within the public right-of-way are conducted in such a manner that existing or temporary pedestrian facilities are accessible by people with disabilities.
  • This position serves as a link between the disability community and ACHD so that ACHD can shape policies to fulfill ACHD’s requirements to meet the Federal Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.



  • Requires considerable knowledge of ADA and related accessibility laws and regulations; the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD); coordinating ADA compliance and accommodation programs as related to accessibility and work occurring within the public rights-of-way; ADA and pedestrian design elements and roadway design principles including the ability to interpret roadway plans, geometric designs, and roadway safety; principles and practices of disability discrimination complaint investigations and mediations.
  • Also requires a good knowledge of program management principles and practices; civil engineering and surveying methods; principles and practices of road construction; reading design plans and traffic control plans; supervisory principles and practices; mobility issues from the perspective of persons with disabilities; contract plan development process; design safety analysis, cost-benefit analysis, and mitigation strategies for roadway design.
  • Must have the ability to manage and prioritize routine, specialized, and complex assignments and issues; enforce construction compliance with established polices and specifications; negotiate effectively; problem solve, and adapt to an evolving and continually improving environment; supervise and train others in the methods and techniques of the specialty area; communicate effectively orally and in writing; demonstrate initiative, tact, and sensitivity to a diverse community; conduct meetings and develop and deliver technical training to a small and large group of professional staff.
  • Possess or ability to obtain ADA Coordinator Training Certification Program (ACTCP) certification within eighteen months of hire. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, abilities and experience.
