Bruce W. Parker

Bruce W. Parker, AICP, is Principal, Planning and Development Services, LLC (PDS). PDS is a Salt Lake City based planning firm specializing in community planning, plan implementation, infrastructure planning, development management, and development entitlements. PDS provides planning and development services to public and private sector clients throughout Utah and the Inter-Mountain West.

Bruce holds a Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning (Honors), University of New England, Armidale, Australia and Master of City and Metropolitan Planning, University of Utah. Bruce’s teaching and research interests include community development, small town, rural, and resort planning, and the relationships of planning and incarceration. His PhD dissertation; “Planning and Prisons: The Siting and Design of U.S. State Prisons” is investigating the opportunities and the obstacles for planning to play increased roles in the US incarceration phenomena, and its reform.

“The University of Utah provides great facilities and resources for my research. It is near communities of all types and sizes, providing opportunities for a variety of planning and interdisciplinary research.” The Department of City and Metropolitan Planning, University of Utah has also provided several opportunities to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in my areas of planning specialization. In his spare time Bruce serves as the Professional Development Officer, Utah Chapter, American Planning Association and enjoys exploring Utah’s natural beauty and unique places.
