Green Communities

Our understanding of the ways we build and sustain human settlements is part of the evolution of knowledge that is expanding every day. Our willingness to ask questions and engage in dialogue across disciplines is helping us diagnose and correct past mistakes and discover elegant solutions for the future of cities. This class will explore cutting-edge developments in city building processes using case studies such as the Green Communities Initiative (TM) developed by Enterprise Community Partners, high-performance infrastructure guidelines, and a look at EcoCities and Green Urbanism in cities throughout the world. Students will be expected to think systemically about urban ecologies and be willing to make critical observations of their day-to-day lives as participants on the complex stage of urban life. Student teams created videos to inspired us to imagine alternative futures.
