College of Architecture + Planning

Each year the City and Metropolitan Planning Department partners with local governments and MPO’s to put on a symposium regarding a specific topic related to planning.  In October 2016, the CMP Department and the Metropolitan Research Center partnered with the Salt Lake County Mayor’s Office and the Wasatch Front Regional Council to host Mayor McAdam’s Metro Solutions Symposium. The symposium focused on transit oriented development and centers, and featured keynotes from Mayor Ben McAdams, Dr. Robert Cervero (UC-Berkeley), and John Fregonese (President, Fregonese Associates). The chair of the CMP Department, Dr. Reid Ewing, kicked off the event with a presentation on his research on TODs and urban, suburban, and town centers. The symposium was a great success and a sold-out event with nearly 200 attendees.  Most importantly, the Symposium facilitated the coming together of students, educators, professionals, and elected officials to discuss an important planning topic for the Salt Lake Region.
