Shima is Director of the Institute of Urban Studies and Assistant Professor of Urban Planning in the College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Arlington. At the Institute of Urban Studies, Hamidi works with 22 doctoral and master students to conduct applied research studies, deliver customized planning and management assistance, offer training and professional development and engage in related outreach activities. Since Hamidi’s tenure in UTA, the amount of grants and contracts in IUS increased more than 1000%. Hamidi is also the Principal Investigator on a cooperative venture with the City of Arlington called the Arlington Urban Design Center (AUDC) located in the Arlington City Hall and has 6 UTA graduate research assistants.
