University of Utah Urbanists (Student Org)

Who we are:

University of Utah Urbanists is a planning student organization based in the College of Architecture + Planning. Formerly known as Point B Transportation Student Group, we recently updated our mission, goals, and operations to be more inclusive of the wide range of planning interests that students have. We encourage you to join if you’re interested in topics such as:

  • Smart growth and sustainable development
  • Land use and transportation planning
  • Ecological planning
  • Housing and community development
  • Economic and real estate development
  • Small and resort town planning
  • Disaster and resiliency planning
  • Urban design

Anyone affiliated with the U is welcome to join University of Utah Urbanists. Additionally, many of our speaker events are open to the public, including college alumni, planning students at other universities, and young professionals. While the club is currently led by students in the Master of City & Metropolitan Planning program, we encourage anyone with an interest in urbanism and planning topics to participate and attend.

What we do:

University of Utah Urbanists’ primary objective is to organize events and activities that serve the interests of its members. These include:

  • Guest lectures or speaker panels with local planning professionals
  • Networking events and office visits with local firms
  • Site visits or tours
  • Social events, such as potluck dinners or FrontRunner trips to Ogden or Provo
  • Attendance at the biannual APA Utah conferences, the Utah Bike Summit, and more

How to participate:

Our primary point of contact is through our email, uofuurbanists@gmail.com. We are active on Instagram and LinkedIn and we use a mailing list to send periodic newsletters with information about events, planning news, and other club activities.
