Three Ph.D. Students Win Natural Hazards Center Research Grants


Congratulations to Sua Kim, Sayma Khajehei, and Tasnim Isaba! These three Ph.D. students won Natural Hazards Center research grants. This grant is funded by FEMA Region 8, through the NHC, and aims to develop actionable knowledge on disaster planning.

  • Sua Kim (Lead PI), Role of Business Support Organization in Advancing Minority-Owned Business Recovery after COVID-19 in Utah, $4000. Co-PI Divya Chandrasekhar
  • Sayma Khajehei (Lead PI), Public Sector Planning for Post-Disaster Public Housing Recovery in Communities with Near Experiences of Disasters, $4000. Co-PI Divya Chandrasekhar
  • Tasnim Isaba (Co-PI), Land Use Adaptations for Wildfire Management in Unincorporated Communities, $4000. Co-PIs: Donovan Finn (Stonybrook U), Santina Contreras (USC), Divya Chandrasekhar (Lead PI)

All three studies will contribute to these students’ dissertations.
